High Water Brewing: Retribution Imperial IPA

High Water Brewing (Chico, CA) is a new one for me. I ran across it randomly at my local bottle shop and thought I would give it a try. From their website it looks like these guys are fairly new in the game and are brewing on others equipment. Probably not a bad way to get started before spending the big bucks for a whole brewery set up. Their Retribution Imperial IPA has a very nice aroma right out of the bottle. I picked up some nice citrus smell, which I tend to really like. The maltiness is just about right up to my liking and you can taste the 95 IBU's, but not excessively. The hop flavor was a bit resiny too, which I like. Although it comes in at 9.5% ABV, it is masked well. It seemed a bit pricey at $7.79 for a 22oz. bottle, but I enjoyed this beer and look forward to checking out their other offerings.
